D-Aspartic Acid

WHAT IS IT: D-aspartic acid is a naturally occurring alternate form of one of the main 20 structural aminos, Aspartate. D-Aspartate is an excitatory neurotransmitter that is present across the brain and is in higher concentrations in the pituitary and pineal gland. D-aspartic acid can be produced with-in the body from the amino acid L-Aspartic acid.

HOW DOES IT WORK:  D-AA works in the central brain region to cause a release of hormones, such as luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, and growth hormone. It may also build up in the testicles, where it alleviates a rate-limiting step of testosterone synthesis, which leads to a minor testosterone increase.

BENEFITS:

• Allows an increase of testosterone by working synergistically with HCG to increase testosterone release by the testicular cell.
• Evidence has also shown that testosterone can be increased indirectly by stimulating the hypothalamus to release luteinizing hormone.
• Some evidence has also shown an increase in overall cognitive function when orally ingested.
• Increased sperm production and motility. One human study using 2.66g D-Aspartate daily for 90 days in men with abnormal seminal profiles (asthenozoospermia and oligoasthenozoospermia) noted improvements in seminal motility and concentration (ranging from 50-100% improvements from baseline) and was associated with higher fertility rates in men.

SUPPLEMENT DOSING:

Standard dosing is 3000mg a day. It is to be noted that studies have shown those with regular testosterone levels do not benefit as much from supplementation of DAA as those with low testosterone. Those with low testosterone showed prolonged increase in testosterone levels when supplementing DAA. This result was not seen in those with regular testosterone levels due to their bodies producing an enzyme that breaks down DAA.
